Meteorologists at the Weather Channel have been monitoring an area of disturbance in the Atlantic Ocean dubbed, Invest 92L.

This area of interest could become Tropical Storm Irma by the end of the weekend.

Meteorologists use model data which essentially predicts weather patterns based off of current conditions. These models are in fair agreement that whatever this system becomes heads in the general direction of The Bahamas and then, Florida.

The system is moving towards the northwest and with a ridge of high pressure over Bermuda in the Atlantic, the system has no choice but to move northwestward which would eventually run it into Florida.

Some models predict that this “Invest 92L” becomes a Hurricane while others develop it into Irma and then have it slowly fall apart before even getting to The Bahamas.

Regardless, Hurricane Matthew last year was enough of a warning for us here in Central Florida to prepare for a storm. It was 13 years ago this week that Hurricane Charley made landfall abrutly in Punta Gorda, Florida and moving right up the state into Orlando.

Now is the time to ensure your hurricane preparedness kit is ready, that your generators are ready and your evacuation plans are in order.
